Matthew Henson

Matthew Henson

Matthew Henson is an existential psychotherapist (IAHIP and UKCP registered), ecopsychologist, group facilitator and psychotherapy trainer, qualified in each of those areas. He currently run’s private psychotherapy, ecopsychology and freelance training practices based in Kinsale, working both indoors and outside to (re)locate psychotherapy within the other-than-human (natural) world.

His current practice draws on close to 30 years experience of voluntary, statutory and private community service development, provision and oversight across social, mental health, drug and criminal justice services in the UK and, more recently, Ireland. Within the context of a long-standing commitment to ethical service provision, his current interests include the development of existential psychotherapy as a challenge to anthropocentrism, the promotion of existential-phenomenology within ecopsychology as an established and appropriate relational methodology and the reciprocal therapeutic potential of being-with-the-other-than-human.
